“This Is . . . What Scares Me”

Posted Sunday 27 January 2008 and filed under: Just Sharing, Other Crafty Bits, Softies

That’s the theme for “This Is . . .” this week. So here’s mine:

It’s not the product but the animal the product is meant to catch. Yup, mice FREAK ME OUT. Perhaps it’s those memories of fat mice running rampant over my food and under my legs at the dinner table back in the Philippines when I was a kid, or the huge rats the size of puppies that would be looking for food in the alley next to my Grandma’s house (also in Manila). We had a few mice in our house a couple of months ago (have no idea how they got inside) and I just could not sleep. The only reason we found out that we had some unwanted visitors was waking up in the morning and finding lots of mouse poop all over the kitchen bench. Yechhh. So . . . it’s very unlikely I will be embarking on mouse softies any time soon :-)

Haven’t had a chance to do much crafting this past week. I did get to cut up some pieces for a baby quilt I would like to make for a good friend. She doesn’t know whether they are having a boy or girl so I went with a red/blue/green theme. Her baby shower is next Sunday. I’ve kept the design bright and simple so I am hoping it will all be done by Sunday.

I also finished another bear design - this time merging various bits of the Peg Bears and Doddi Bears together. This is the prototype:

I will be tweaking the pattern a fair bit for the next version, and hope to make a boy-version as well. Aurora has happily claimed the one above as hers :-)

And we had Ava’s 4th Birthday party yesterday. It was a hot day but all the kids had a great (and exhausting!) time, including the birthday girl. I can’t believe my “baby” is now 4!

Thank you for all the lovely comments on the Peg Bears! I’ll be taking a blog break this week just so that I can catch up some gifts that still need to be made. I’ll be back here on Sunday. I hope you have a delightful and delicious week ahead!

Ooooh, I *love* the pink Peggy Dodd! So sweet, adorable. I wouldn’t think any tweaking of the pattern was necessary, but you know best. Can’t wait to see Mr. Peggy Dodd… :0)

I am also afraid of mice. I will jump on anything that is close to get away from them.

Jhoanna, maybe you just need to have a kitty cat? My friend had the same mice problem big time, then she got a cat and all the mice went away.

By the way, I’ve just picked you on my blog to pass you the “You Make My Day” award cause I just love all your cute softies! (And I really like the pink bear in your latest post… so adorable!!!)

You need to pick 5 of your favorite blogs too! (But only if you’d like to participate.) Please go to my blog for more details! XO

Horrible little creatures aren’t they? I put my foot inside a rubber boot once and there was one in the bottom. I also put my hand in a bag of horsefeed once only to have one run up my arm.
I now have a similar fear to you.

The bear is super adorable and I’d really love to see a photo of the quilt when it’s finished - the colours look fabulous together.
Happy birthday Ava (such a beautiful name).
I also loathe mice - so so scared of them - the few times we’ve had one in the house I’ve come out in a sweat, screamed my head off like a crazy girl and jumped up on the nearest chair (while I’m still screaming)..lol

I’m not a fan of mice either - I just caught one that had been haunting my house at night - yuk!
By the way I just nominated you for the You Make My Day award - details on my blog.
