Doddi Bear #7

Posted Saturday 4 April 2009 and filed under: Craft: Softies & Dolls,Good Finds,Just Sharing

I found this Doddi Bear all cut up and ready to sew a few days ago when I was procrastinating and cleaning out my little studio :-) I can’t remember what I was making her for but I do remember that I cut her out just before we moved house last year. In any case, she came in very handy as I was thinking about making a Doddi Bear as a gift for my god-daughter’s upcoming birthday.

Doddi Bear #7 (with no pink in sight as specifically requested by the recipient :-)) -

I originally had her with the green felt eyes and no buttons – but she looked a little too, um, scary? So I put the buttons on top of the green felt and I think she looks a bit friendlier, though in serious thought about something very important :-)

Definitely not scary is this cutie-cutie Cotton Tail bunny that arrived from one of my favourite softie-makers, Holly aka Beeper Bebe:

How indescribably lovely is she?! Made from recycled wool suiting and such a yummy colour too. Check out Holly’s wonderful softie creations over here.

On a completely unrelated note, I managed to make some healthy chicken sausage rolls for dinner tonight:

Hubby has been asking me for a while now to give them a go and thanks to a tweet by Fig and Cherry, I found her post on making these and somehow improvised on the recipe (chicken mince, carrots, onions, zucchini, parsley  garlic & 1 egg). They turned out quite nice, especially hot straight out of the oven with tomato sauce.

Okay, I better head off to bed and make the most of this extra one hour of sleep thanks to the end of Daylight savings :-) Before I go, please do check out Marina’s wonderful pics of Woodland Girl Paisely who has safely travelled to Germany to live with Marina and her family :-)

Want to make a polite little cat?

Posted Thursday 2 April 2009 and filed under: Craft: Softies & Dolls,Just Sharing,My Published Projects

Thanks for Ze Bun-bun love! Some girly-ones (Easter gifts for my two littlies) in progress and the beginnings of a Doddi Bear in my creative space tonight:

I did manage to make it to the book launch for Meet Me At Mikes this past Monday night. I had never been to the Metropolis before – I envisage many visits on future lunch breaks :-) Pip looked gorgeous and it was SO MUCH FUN meeting and greeting fellow bloggers and crafters including the many contributors who came down for the event. What a treat :-) You can see pics of the night on Pip’s blog here and the list of all contributors here.

Here’s my project in the book – Zing the polite cat . . .

I blogged about Zing a while ago over here. He is a very easy softie to sew up and will probably take much less than the 2-3 hours noted in the book :-) The book is just amazing – the perfect range of projects from coasters to an apron, baby pants, bags, and softies (and much more). Plus the photography is vintage-inspired, understated, and fresh. And there are little extra how-to’s at the back including how to crochet a granny square:

And speaking of cats and bunnies (sorry, had to weave that in somehow!), just wanted to share 2 pictures drawn by my sweet 5 year old the other day of a kitten and a bunny. I think I was pretty much still drawing stick figures when I was that age so seeing these little characters gives me such a thrill – perhaps I should make them into softies too? :-)

More creative spaces over here.

P.S. I am now posting all my good finds on my Twitter profile but am hoping to compile a list of them on the blog from time to time.
