A Crafty Kids Giveaway from Moose Toys!!!

Posted Friday 14 May 2010 and filed under: Good Finds,Just Sharing

Thanks to the lovely folks at Moose Toys, I received two craft activities in the mail for my girls to try out.

My two little ones are 6 and 14 – oh wait, did I say 14? Granted, somedays she has the attitude of a teenager, but no, she’s actually only almost-4. Anyway . . .

My girls love to keep their hands busy and are at that age where the fact they can stick stuff together and paint and draw and actually create something new out of bits and pieces is very exciting (I admit, I still feel that way too!). So a few gleeful squeals were heard when I asked them to open up this box: “Magic Fabric

Basically, you choose one of 5 characters to make. You peel off all the required pieces and position them together. Then you put them together like a sandwich with a piece of foam in the middle and run them through the presser.

And hey presto! A cute little animal friend made without any glue or sewing required! You can convert them into tags to hang on bags, or into stickers (or perhaps using your own supplies, even magnets and brooches!)

The girls really enjoyed this and could do all the steps themselves with minimal help from me. It’s also a very no-mess/no-fuss kind of activity and would be a really fun thing to do at a birthday party. It would be good if more characters were made available and could be bought separately as my girls went through all five characters and were hoping to make more! :-)

Next, we opened up this intriguing craft activity: “Bendaroos

Firstly, mental note for future reference: Explain to the almost-4-year-old that despite appearances, those sticks are made of wax and ARE NOT LOLLIES. This will prevent future occurences of almost-4-year-old biting into said wax and subsequent gagging and spitting.

Lesson learnt.

So yes, all those lovely little packets are wax sticks. It also comes with a tool to cut the sticks or join them together. I was very surprised at how easy it was to shape the sticks – the warmth from your hands allows the sticks to become malleable and makes them sticky so that you don’t need glue to keep hold them together.

The girls really enjoyed this activity too but it did require more supervision from me as their little hands tired quite quickly. I’d say that this would be a really fun activity for older children – they could seriously spend hours making all kinds of cool things from all those sticks.

Thank you to Carrie from Moose Toys for generously providing the opportunity for my girls to try out these activities! It was a lovely afternoon spent crafting together! :-)

Moose Toys has also generously offered the following giveaway to a lucky One Red Robin reader!!!

I just loved making paper chains in the brightest colours I could find…(I loved and still do love) all crafts and enjoy teaching my Grandchildren all aspects of being ‘crafty’…I’m pleased to say they also love crafts of all types.

I can remember being super pleased with myself when i made my own pencil holder. yes that’s right, it was an old tomato tin (cleaned) and covered with fabric (mine was blue gingham) and i am pretty sure there was a bit of ribbon involved too. i loved it

I did a lot of craft when I was younger but one image that is jumping out at me right now is finger knitting. I remember sitting in our classroom during winter when it was too wet to go outside for lunch and also during story time knitting away. Sadly I can’t even remember how to do it now. I might have to look it up online to refresh my memory when my daughter is a little older.

Oh and I loved my little plastic “loom” where I would spend hours just weaving wool in different patterns.

Thanks for the giveaway and getting me to make a short trip down memory lane :)

All three of my kids love craft and often my dinner table is a workshop. Our favorite is making face masks, animal masks ans signs using paper plates, pom poms, paint, wool, feathers, glitter and of course our imagination. Now that our littlest one has grasped the concept that craft is not for the mouth we have been able to re-introduce buttons, stick on eyes the googly ones and beads. Lots of fun for all.

Oy. When we walked past the Bendaroos display there was much squealing and whining… can’t see the appeal myself (well, aside from the colors, of course), but that Magic Fabric?! *That* I could see myself squealing over for sure.

Such cute pics of your girls. Looks like they had great fun!

I used to love making things with HAMA beads. You get a little board covered in rows of spikes and then you carefully arrange the beads into whatever picture you like, then you iron it and all the beads stick together! SO much fun :)

My girls would be very unimpressed if I didn’t enter this one, Our favorite craft activity is drawing, drawing and drawing some more, even the littlest little draws constantly, we go through paper and texta’s and crayons and pencils like there is no tomorrow, I find drawings everywhere, even the bathroom floor!?! and don’t get me started on the wall art!! I think I’ll have to get some of that benderoo’s stuff it would be a hit with the bigger littles.

My 11 yr old son went “wow, they look really cool”, and in his mind they’re not girly at all. Just wish the packaging wasn’t so pink. I might buy some just to play with myself.

Oh, how I yearn to be crafty with my almost 3yo boy. The most successful crafty activity was a mothers day coin purse. Dear little boy placed one blob of glue on the fabric, dumped an entire container of sparkly stars on top, shouting “finished!” and running off to ride the bikes. That said, he did try to use my sewing machine this morning….

As a child i loved finger knitting or french-knitting using my mum’s old wooden sewing spools. My sons have only just been convinced that crafting is not a girl-only past time and we have spent this week making animals out of pom-poms

My favorite activity as a child was to play with tiny cars in the vacant lot next door. We would make roads in the dirt and have stick houses.
I try to encourage our grandchildren to play in nature and enjoy God’s handiwork!

Do I really have to choose just one?! I love squishing clay! I love making collages with scraps of delicious fabric! I love making peg-dollies! I love using glitter, “special” textas, paint… you name it! The more different colours of paper you can find, the better! I love doing kiddy-crafty stuff! As do my kids! We’ve got quite a collection of materials these days but we are always looking for more to try!

When I was a little person, I LOVED to make things from that squishy cacky brown craft clay…seventh heaven. Coil pencil holders, lopsided “vases” you name it. My two little ones have also been infected by my crafty bent…but when I pull out the bag of cacky clay…whoa!

Oh my Jho, what a great giveaway, my kids would LOVE to win this!

My kids love to cut, paste and stick, so any craft such as collaging with pictures cut from junk mail, scraps of fabric or recycled materials such as bottle tops is sure to keep them occupied for ages.

By far, my favourite craft activity as a kid was the old faithful knitting nancy. How I loved to make long belts and other creations with this nifty little tool that my grandfather made for me. My kids really love to make things out of cereal boxes – especialy robots :)

I always loved watching my Mum sew me bits and pieces, she was such a good sport about letting me use some of her stash that I would make (very bad) bags and dresses for my dolls. There was also always cereal packets to turn into buildings and towns.
