In My Sketchbook: Playing with Watercolour
I’m not much of a painter. To be honest, paints in general have always scared me – I can just barely manage with acrylics and have failed big time with oils. But watercolours have scared me the most. Not sure why – it may have to do with the fact that they seem so … uncontrollable? unpredictable? umm, fluid? I think you know what I mean :-)
This past weekend, I decided it was time to overcome this fear and start playing with watercolour paint again.
My first attempt:

I didn’t get the paint at the right consistency so it was still quite thick. I like how the dress turned out but the skin needed more blending.
My second attempt:

I like how this one turned out. I used more water on my brush and experimented with the skin tone. So I think the blending turned out much better than the first attempt. I like how the wash turned out on the dress too.
I also tried a portrait:

I think I’ll need more work on blending the colours and probably a steadier hand for some of the finer lines. But I’m really having fun with watercolour paint. I’m glad I decided to put the fear aside and just do it!
